CONFIRMATION

The Sacrament of the Confirmation

Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism. Through the anointing with sacred oil (chrism) and the laying on of hands, usually by the bishop, the person receives the gift of the Holy Spirit in a special way, just as the apostles did at Pentecost.

What Confirmation means for everyday life

Confirmation strengthens us to live our faith with courage and to share it with others. The gifts of the Holy Spirit — wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and wonder and awe in God's presence — help us make good choices, stand up for what is right, and grow in kindness and generosity. It reminds young people and adults alike that they have a part to play in the life of the Church and the world.

Children usually prepare for Confirmation in partnership with St Mary's Primary School and the parish. Families whose children attend another school, and adults who have not been confirmed, are very welcome — please contact the parish office.
