- Bishop Frank consults us. Conversations in the Spirit. About what the Spirit wants, not about what we want!
- How is it possible for us to have conversations in the Spirit?
- Because the Spirit is the soul of Church, Christ’s Body, which we are. At parish level.
- Church lives in the Spirit. Lord and Giver of Life.
- If we live in the Spirit, we must walk in the Spirit in how we act and speak.
- Spirit of Christ. Christ means Jesus+Spirit in one. Jesus + Spirit = Christ. He comes from Christ, leads to Christ.
- Takes what is Christ’s and leads us to the fullness of it.
- The Spirit is the Unity of Father and Son. He is the Unity of the Trinity. He unites opposites into One without destroying uniqueness.
- Unites the divine and human in Christ.
- Unites the Risen Christ and bread and wine in the Eucharist.
- Unifying force in the Church, making us One Body, One Spirit in Christ: in baptism, the individual is made one with Christ & Church, in reconciliation He reunites sinner with the sinless Christ & with the Church. In all sacraments He unites human beings to Christ or to Christ’s power.
- But He is also the great Diversifier. The Unity He brings is in variety and difference, in complementarity, without confusion or division. Neither of these comes from the Holy
- He blows where He wills, but He only wills what the Father and the Son will. The Spirit penetrates the whole world, but never without Christ or the Church. Wherever the Spirit is, Christ and therefore the Church are there, too.
- He enlightens the mind with divine truth and enkindles the heart with divine love.
- So, what the Bishop is asking us to do is to let this Spirit come down on us at our encounters for conversations in the Spirit about Confirmation.
- He is asking us to make this an exercise of our baptismal and confirmation grace. The purpose of it is that we then share with the Bishop the fruits of the Spirit’s presence and action in our encounters.
- I invite you not to resist the Spirit, but to give Him free access to your mind and heart, and to let the gifts of the Spirit you have received come alive at the encounters. The gifts of wisdom and understanding, counsel and fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.
- Let us respond generously to the Bishop’s invitation and do something beautiful for God.
