19 year-old Matteo Farina declared Venerable by Pope Francis, 06.05.20

Yesterday afternoon, Pope Francis declared a 19 year-old Italian from Brindisi to be Venerable. That is, the Vatican has, after detailed and prolonged study, declared that Matteo lived his short life with heroic virtues.

One version of his story can be read here:

For our young people, it’s important to remember that holiness is not only for last century, for old people and for priests and nuns. Matteo shows us that even in our secular, fast-moving and sceptical world, the Holy Spirit is working with immense love in young children, teenagers and young adults.

It’s, of course, good to aspire to a good career, but a career will not last for ever: holiness will!

Fr. Peter
