Safeguarding Statement from the Diocese of Galloway

Posted on 05/10/2020 Posted By: Peter Magee Categories: Coronavirus, Safeguarding
Around this time our inter-parish Safeguarding Committee, covering St. Mary’s (Largs, Fairlie, Skelmorlie) and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour’s (Millport), would have made a public statement on how safeguarding is progressing in our parishes and further afield.

If you visit our parish safeguarding page on our website, you will see a few related items since October of 2019. I also made reference to the abuse crisis in my homily for the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross on 14th September.

This year, the Diocese itself has decided to provide a written statement for all parishes in Galloway. I ask you to read it carefully.

Let me take the occasion to reiterate that our Parish Safeguarding Coordinator in Largs and myself are always ready and willing to welcome anyone who needs to speak about such matters. You can be assured of a compassionate and listening ear at all times.

The Parish Safeguarding Coordinator for Millport, Mr. Donnie McGilveray had to resign from this role due to other commitments, so I am in consultation to see who might be willing to take his place.

God keep us all safe and strengthen us in the face of all of the challenges of the current time. – Fr. Peter
